Within the scope of C-Roads Germany different Cooperative Intelligent Transport System
(C-ITS) services will be realised in Hessen. Therefore, the test field Germany for connected and automated traffic around Frankfurt am Main is used.
In this test field, Hessen Mobil and partners from industry and science develop and pursue together future technologies
for many years. Thus, the experiences and results from other national and international C-ITS projects, for example the project Cooperative ITS Corridor (C-ITS Corridor), are the
foundation for new soft- and hardware developments.
Overview of the test field of the C-ITS pilot Hessen
The aim is to use the cooperative traffic technology for increasing safety and efficiency of the traffic. In this frame, different cooperative applications are used as a pilot and thereby their readiness for use can be established. In addition to the already existing and about 200 km test field, it will be enlarged to about 280 km.
The activities of the Hessian pilot will be realised on the following motorway sections: A3 around Offenbach, Frankfurt and the airport in Frankfurt to Mönchhof-Dreieck, A5 in the whole area between central Hessen (Wetterau) and the South Hessian state border including Frankfurt and Darmstadt, the A60, A67 and A671 in the whole Hessian area as well as sections of the A661 near Frankfurt. Furthermore, the GLOSA service will be implemented at signal-controlled junctions in a city in the Rhine-Main region.
